1. Introduction

This Cookie Policy explains how Little Needs App Ltd ("Company", "we", "our", or "us") uses cookies, LocalStorage, and similar technologies when you access or use the Little Needs progressive web application ("App"), our websites at littleneedsapp.co.uk and littleneedsapp.com ("Website"), and any associated services (together, the "Services").

This policy is provided in compliance with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 ("PECR"), the UK General Data Protection Regulation ("UK GDPR"), and the Data Protection Act 2018. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions.

We want to be transparent about the technologies used on our Services and to give you clear information so that you can make informed choices about your preferences.

Little Needs is a baby essentials guide for new and expectant parents in the UK. The App is a Progressive Web App ("PWA") accessible via a web browser on your phone or computer and capable of being added to your home screen. It is not currently distributed through an app store.

3. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?

Cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) by websites you visit. They are widely used to make websites and apps work, to improve efficiency, and to provide information to the site or app owner. Cookies may be "first-party" (set by the website you are visiting) or "third-party" (set by a different organisation, such as an advertising network or analytics provider).

LocalStorage

LocalStorage is a browser-based storage mechanism that allows websites and apps to save data directly on your device. Unlike cookies, LocalStorage data is not automatically sent to a server with each page request. It remains on your device until you (or your browser) delete it. Under PECR, the rules about consent and information apply to any technology that stores or accesses information on your device, which may include LocalStorage where it is used for non-essential purposes.

Other Similar Technologies

Similar technologies include session storage, pixel tags, web beacons, and device fingerprinting. Where we or third parties use any such technology in connection with the Services, this policy applies.

4. Scope of This Policy

This policy covers:

• technologies set directly by Little Needs on the App and Website (first-party);
• technologies set by third parties when you interact with the Services, including where we include Affiliate Links and you click them (third-party); and
• the use of LocalStorage by the App.

When you leave our App or Website by clicking a link to a third-party site (such as a retailer, marketplace, affiliate network, or retail partner, such as Etsy), that site's own cookie and privacy policies will apply. We encourage you to read their policies.

5. Technologies We Use

At present, Little Needs uses a limited set of technologies on the Services:

• LocalStorage: used by the App to save your checklist progress and preferences locally on your device (see clause 6 below).
• Strictly necessary technologies: we may use storage that is strictly necessary to provide the App or Website functionality you have requested (for example, remembering that you have acknowledged a notice).
• Potential third-party affiliate cookies: if we include Affiliate Links within the App or Website, the relevant affiliate network or retail partner may set tracking cookies on your device (see clause 8 below).

We do not currently set our own analytics, advertising, or marketing cookies. If we introduce analytics (such as Google Analytics) or marketing technologies in future, we will update this policy and obtain your consent before deploying non-essential cookies, where consent is required.

6. LocalStorage

The App uses your browser's LocalStorage to save your checklist progress and preferences directly on your device. This allows you to return to the App and see your saved information without needing to create an account or log in.

What LocalStorage stores

• Your checklist progress (items ticked/unticked).
• Your category or stage preferences within the App.

How it works

• Data saved in LocalStorage remains on your device and browser only. It is not currently transmitted to our servers.
• LocalStorage is not a cookie. It does not expire automatically and is not sent to the server with each page request.

Important limitations

LocalStorage data may be lost if you:

• clear your browser cache or data;
• change device or browser;
• disable storage or use private/incognito browsing mode;
• uninstall or remove the App from your home screen; or
• use browser settings or extensions that restrict local storage.

You should not rely on the App as your sole means of storing important information. We recommend that you note down or back up any important data separately.

Legal basis

We consider the use of LocalStorage for saving your checklist progress to be functionally necessary to provide the App service you have requested (i.e., the ability to track your selections). Where LocalStorage is used solely for this purpose, it falls within the exemption for technologies that are strictly necessary to provide a service explicitly requested by the user under Regulation 6 of PECR. If we use LocalStorage for any additional non-essential purpose in future, we will inform you and obtain your consent where required.

7. Categories of Cookies and Similar Technologies

The following categories describe the types of cookies and similar technologies that are or may be used in connection with the Services:

7.1 Strictly Necessary Technologies

These are technologies essential for the basic operation of the App or Website. They enable core functionality such as acknowledging a notice, maintaining a session, or enabling security features. Because they are essential to provide a service you have requested, they do not require your consent under PECR.

Examples: essential session management, security tokens, consent/preference records.

7.2 Functional Technologies

Functional technologies remember choices you make (such as your preferences or settings) to provide a more personalised experience. Where these go beyond what is strictly necessary, we will seek your consent before using them.

At present, the App's LocalStorage use (described in clause 6) is the primary functional technology we use, and we consider it strictly necessary to deliver the checklist-saving feature you have requested.

7.3 Analytics and Performance Technologies

Analytics cookies collect information about how visitors use a website or app, such as which pages are visited most often, how users navigate, and whether errors occur. This information helps improve the Services.

We do not currently use analytics cookies or services (such as Google Analytics). If we introduce analytics technologies in future, we will:

• update this Cookie Policy to describe the specific analytics tools used;
• obtain your consent before placing analytics cookies on your device, where required; and
• provide you with the ability to opt out via your browser settings or other available controls.

7.4 Marketing, Advertising and Affiliate Technologies

Marketing and advertising cookies are used to track users across websites and to display targeted advertisements. Affiliate tracking cookies attribute purchases or clicks to a particular referral source for commission purposes.

Little Needs does not currently set its own marketing or advertising cookies, and we do not currently have affiliate partners in place. If we include Affiliate Links in future, third-party affiliate networks or retail partners may place their own tracking cookies on your device.

If we introduce sponsored content, brand partnerships, or our own advertising technologies in future, we will update this policy and obtain your consent before deploying non-essential marketing cookies.

8. Third-Party Cookies and Affiliate Links

The App and Website may contain Affiliate Links to third-party retailers, affiliate networks, or retail partners, such as:

• Amazon Associates
• Awin network
• Other affiliate networks, retailers, and brand partners

If you click an Affiliate Link, you may be redirected to the relevant third-party retailer's website. At that point, the affiliate network or retailer may set cookies or use similar tracking technologies on your device to:

• identify that you were referred by Little Needs;
• attribute any subsequent purchase for commission purposes; and
• collect usage, browsing, or transaction data under their own policies.

These are third-party cookies. We do not control what cookies affiliate networks, retail partners, or retailers set, how long they last, or what data they collect. Their use is governed by their own cookie and privacy policies, which we encourage you to read.

Where Affiliate Links are used, the relevant affiliate network or retail partner (for example, Amazon Associates or Awin, where applicable) may set tracking cookies on your device at the point of click, before you are fully redirected to the retailer's website. These are third-party advertising/affiliate cookies used to identify the referral source and attribute any subsequent purchases for commission purposes. Because affiliate tracking cookies are non-essential, our cookie banner or preference centre will give you the option to accept or reject them before they are set, where consent is required. If you reject non-essential affiliate tracking cookies, you should still be able to access the core informational content of the App and Website. Affiliate links may still take you to third-party websites, but affiliate attribution may not operate and the third-party website you visit will apply its own cookie policy, privacy policy, and terms. You can also avoid clicking Affiliate Links or adjust your browser settings to block third-party cookies.

9. Analytics and Performance Technologies

As noted in clause 7.3, we do not currently use analytics cookies or similar performance-tracking technologies on the Services. If this changes (for example, if we implement Google Analytics or a similar tool), we will:

• clearly describe the technology, its provider, and its purpose in an updated version of this policy;
• notify you and seek your consent where required;
• obtain your consent before any non-essential analytics cookies are placed on your device; and
• give you the ability to change your preferences or withdraw your consent at any time.

10. Marketing, Advertising and Sponsored Content

We do not currently send marketing emails or deploy our own marketing or advertising cookies.

If marketing communications (such as a newsletter) or advertising/sponsorship technologies are introduced in future:

• email marketing will be opt-in only and you will be able to unsubscribe at any time;
• any advertising or sponsored-content cookies will be described in this policy and deployed only with your prior consent; and
• sponsored or paid-for content within the App will be clearly identified as such in accordance with Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) requirements.

11. Consent and Your Preferences

Current position

At present, we use strictly necessary technologies (LocalStorage for saving your checklist progress) which do not require your consent under PECR. In addition, when you click an Affiliate Link, third-party affiliate networks or retail partners (for example, Amazon Associates or Awin, where applicable) may set their own tracking cookies on your device (see clause 8). These third-party cookies are used for advertising and affiliate attribution purposes and are non-essential. Our cookie banner or preference centre will explain these cookies and allow you to reject non-essential affiliate tracking cookies before they are set, where consent is required. Rejecting them should not prevent you from accessing the core informational content of the App or Website, although affiliate links may still take you to third-party sites, where that site's own cookie and privacy policies will apply. If we introduce additional non-essential cookies or similar technologies in future (such as analytics or marketing cookies), we will:

• provide clear, specific information about the technologies, their purposes, and the third parties involved;
• ask for your active, affirmative consent before non-essential technologies are set; and
• not infer consent from your silence, inactivity, pre-ticked boxes, or simply continuing to browse.

Non-essential technologies

You will be able to change your cookie preferences or withdraw your consent at any time by:

• using the cookie consent banner or preference centre (where available), including to reject non-essential affiliate tracking cookies;
• adjusting your browser settings to block or delete cookies and LocalStorage (see clause 12); or
• contacting us at info@littleneedsapp.co.uk.

Withdrawing consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing that took place before you withdrew it. It may also not remove cookies that have already been set; you may need to clear them through your browser settings.

Strictly necessary technologies

Technologies that are strictly necessary to provide a service you have actively requested do not require your consent under PECR. These will function regardless of your cookie preferences.

12. Managing Cookies and LocalStorage in Your Browser

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies and LocalStorage through their settings. You can usually:

• view what cookies and stored data are on your device;
• delete some or all cookies and LocalStorage data;
• block all or certain cookies from being set in future; and
• set your browser to notify you when a cookie is being placed.

The method for managing these settings varies by browser. Here is general guidance for common browsers:

• Google Chrome: Settings > Privacy and Security > Cookies and other site data (or Site Settings > Storage).
• Safari (iOS/macOS): Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data; or Preferences > Privacy.
• Mozilla Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data.
• Microsoft Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions > Manage and delete cookies and site data.
• Mobile browsers: typically found in your phone's browser settings under Privacy, Cookies, or Site Data.

Please note that blocking or deleting cookies and LocalStorage may affect the functionality of the Services (see clause 13).

13. Consequences of Disabling Cookies or LocalStorage

If you choose to disable, block, or clear cookies and/or LocalStorage:

• Saved checklists and preferences in the App may be lost and you will need to re-enter them.
• Some features of the App or Website may not function as intended.
• If you have previously set preferences for non-essential technologies and those settings are stored in a cookie, those preferences may be reset, requiring you to make your choices again.

Rejecting or disabling non-essential cookies (including affiliate tracking or analytics cookies) should not prevent you from accessing the core informational content of the App or Website. The core browsing experience is designed to work without non-essential cookies. Affiliate links may still take you to third-party websites, but affiliate attribution may not operate and those third-party sites will apply their own cookie policies, privacy policies, and terms.

14. Third-Party Websites and Platforms

The Services contain links to third-party websites, retailers, marketplaces, affiliate networks, and retail partners (including marketplaces such as Etsy or Amazon). When you leave our App or Website by clicking any external link:

• you will be subject to that third party's own cookie policy, privacy policy, and terms of use;
• we have no control over the cookies or tracking technologies used by third-party sites; and
• we are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites.

If you purchase a Digital Download through our Etsy shop, Etsy will use its own cookies and tracking technologies and will process your data under Etsy's privacy and cookie policies. We encourage you to review Etsy's policies before making a purchase.

15. Privacy and Data Protection

Where cookies or similar technologies collect or enable the processing of personal data, the UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018 apply in addition to PECR. We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the technologies we use, our data practices, or applicable law. Where we make material changes, we will notify you by reasonable means, which may include:

• publishing the updated policy on the App or Website with a revised "Last Updated" date;
• displaying a notice on the App or Website; or
• notifying you by email (where we hold your email address).

We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the Services after changes are published constitutes your acknowledgement of the updated policy.
